The young are leaving the Northeast and California. There's no future for them there - not on what they make. A decent apartment in California is at least a 1G a month. You can buy a condo or apartment on a mortgage payment for half that or the same in other parts of the country. If all you can afford is rent, go ahead and rent. But it still makes more sense to build equity on a place of your own so you will have something to see you in your old age.
