Minuteman group releases financial information (Simcox-Minuteman)

An Arizona civilian border patrol group has released financial records to answer questions about how the nonprofit spends contributions, but some former Texas members said they still aren't sure where the money goes.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps collected more than $54,000 in registration fees for background checks but spent only about $1,000 for that purpose last year, according to an IRS form and audit report released by group leader Chris Simcox.

The group raised more than $418,000, mostly through contributions, and spent nearly $450,000, including about $280,000 for "program services" and $145,000 on fundraising.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps patrols the border and reports illegal immigrants to authorities. It is different from the Minuteman Project, which also focuses on illegal immigration.

Simcox defended the spending on the group's Web site, saying that its financial state was "much better than most first-year startup national organizations." He criticized the media for "egregiously false" reporting.

But questions about finances and other concerns have led some members to quit the group. Among those was Bill Parmley, the former head of the group's Texas chapter, who left in July 2005.

"There were just too many irregularities," Parmley said. "I just didn't want to be involved in something like that."

Kim Fromme, former director of operations for the group's Texas chapter, quit in February over concerns about where the money was going.

"It didn't go down to the border, that's for sure," Fromme said.

From their volunteer page:

"A $50 non-refundable volunteer registration fee is required to cover fees for a security background check and administrative costs."

In other words the fee was not just for background checks, it's for admin costs, and the admin costs are itemized.

Where is the issue?

Lol! That is pathetic! It might very well cost some money to do a real background check, but they could not have done many if they were truthful on their IRS forms. The adminstrative expense dodge is laughable. Are they charging the applicant money for the priviledge of taking his money?

You are the following Seper and AP hook line and sinker.

Seper interviewed Simcox in July, you saying Simcox is a liar?

The information was released as stated in July '06.

That "information" as you call it, was Simcox's interview with the Washington Times.

I might also add Simcox has been interviewed by numerous sources since the inception of MCDC, including but not limited to; Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes, and Rush Limbaugh.

Tell me what other organization does _not_ have admin fees.
You are making a mountain out of a molehill.

I hope you are as zealous on liberal organizations and 504.c's.

Get with the program. In July they said they would release the '05 financials.

They released the '05 financials on 15 November.

There were 2500+ threads in July August and September with lots of folks calling Simcox a fraudster.

Seper is a prevaricator.

Seper released multiple columns accusing Simcox and MCDC of fraud, and the rounds were made last July, August and September. There were some quite accusatory accusations being made by members of this board. Do you want me to research your posts on this subject back then, or do you not remember the comments you made on the threads?

Get with the program.

I'm way up to speed on it.

There were 2500+ threads in July August and September with lots of folks calling Simcox a fraudster.

You know as well as I do that I have not called him no such thing.

Seper is a prevaricator.

Lou Dobbs a prevaricator too? Hannity? Rush Limbaugh? I mean, Simcox told Dobbs, Sean Hannity, and Limbaugh the same things he told Seper.
