By the way, I'm surprised they didn't go for Zones Urbaines Terribles, or ZUT for short.

I am thinking that if the french want to profit on this they should invest in Burka futures.
So much for Vive la France.

Oops. I found that I have been to several. A few years ago, before I knew better, I took my then 15-year-old daughter with me to visit the cathedral at St. Denis, in the very northern part of Paris. It's on the list. It was a bit unnerving as the character of the people on the Metro gradually changed and we came out near the cathedral. Cool place to see (first gothic cathedral and the abbey where the kings of France are buried). However, had I known then what I know now, the visit would not have happened.
My Frence friends also warned me against taking the Metro through the Montmartre area after midnight. I caught a Muslim kid (about 10 years old, or so) with his hand in my pocket one night as we were entering the Metro outside the Moulon Rouge. There's some really rough areas in that northern part of Paris, believe me.

Well, the map might be useful if the French manage to find a new Napoleon, or the Germans a new Bismark: the ZUS's are obvious locations for airstrikes during the first hour of the campaign to re-Europeanize France.

Remind me! Weren't we supposed to get our traditional ally France to approve our war with Iraq per John Kerry?
Good example of why you shouldn't allow cultural enclaves in your country that don't share your language or cultural values.

If they were to name them ZOTs (Zones Of Tolerance, Zones of Treason, etc) then we could send in the Viking Kitties, who always do a splendid job. But then we would just be back to it being France as it was, which would be no real benefit to the USA that I see....
