Happy New Year, FRiend! We've missed you around here!

How is your son?

Thank you. It's been waaay too long since I posted on the UT. Things were so hectic with job changes and such that FR kind of fell by the wayside.

The little guy is doing awesome. He's in the first grade now and is going beyond all our expectations. He's reading at least three grade levels above what normal, and his memory is phenomenal. Social skills are slowly coming along, but that's normal for any 6-yr old.

I'll never forget what his pediatric neurologist told me after an examination for possible hydrocephalus (he didn't have it). The doc said my son may never be a rocket scientist, but he'll be okay physically. He's wrong already; this boy is sharp. He asked why the flags were down so low this week, and I explained that a man who was once president had died. He started asking me why President Ford died and for what other reasons people die. That's heavy stuff for a little boy.

During the week my son pointed out every time a flag was flying low and sometimes asked if another president died. He wasn't too clear on the concept at first, but at least he is asking about tough subjects like death.

Now I'm just waiting for that OTHER subject to come up ("Daddy, where do babies come from?").

Tell him babies come from God. It's true, if not comprehensive!

He sounds like a great boy. My 5-year-old (as of Dec. 22) can read, but he also thinks he's invisible, so it's a dubious situation.
