First Daughter Barbara (Bush) Robbed in Argentina

First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.

It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left).

A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.

The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.

The Secret Service would not comment on the purse snatching, and the First Lady’s office said they would not comment on any personal trip made by the daughters. There have been recent reports, however, that Jenna Bush has been living and working in Panama as an intern for UNICEF.

If it was, they have a very short lived career ahead of them, as well as entertaining moments with the secret service. I'm wondering how quickly after this news hit the wire that others started searching for the purse snatcher. Most likely, though, the phone has been zapped and re-branded and sold already, the credit cards used and discarded, and the bag for sale in a third hand shop.

If you knew your nation was going to be destroyed by nuclear holocaust, terrorists, insurrections, traitors, 5th Columnists and who knows what else, you just might send your kids to Argentia to keep them out of the fray. Not likely that the jet streams will take the North American clouds of radiation over that part of South America. Very strategic if you ask me.

I agree, Barbara has her mama's good looks......she looks like a bad-girl version of Laura. I think that would tend to put her yum-yum factor off the scale.

Other FReepers are right, though, to worry more about the totally huge target these girls are, running around the Third World like they do. Plus, Argentina is part of the haunting-grounds of the execrable Imad Mugniyah, the Hizbollah terrorist hard case who loves to kill Americans and Jews (he was involved in the 1983 Beirut bombings, in the TWA hijacking about that time and the Lebanon kidnappings later on, and also in two major bombings in Agentina a few years ago aimed at Jewish community centers). He hangs out, or has been known to, in the "no-man's-land" area where Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay meet, working mostly out of Punta de Este, where there is a big Arab first-generation and expat population.
