In ye name of God Amen· We whose names are vnderwriten, the loyall subjects of our dread soueraigne Lord King James by ye grace of God, of great Britaine, franc, & Ireland king, defender of ye faith, &c

Haueing vndertaken, for ye glorie of God, and aduancemente of ye christian ^faith and honour of our king & countrie, a voyage to plant ye first colonie in ye Northerne parts of Virginia· doe by these presents solemnly & mutualy in ye presence of God, and one of another, couenant, & combine our selues togeather into a ciuill body politick; for ye our better ordering, & preseruation & fur= therance of ye ends aforesaid; and by vertue hearof, to enacte, constitute, and frame shuch just & equall lawes, ordinances, Acts, constitutions, & offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meete & conuenient for ye generall good of ye colonie: vnto which we promise all due submission and obedience. This has to be bogus. Everybody knows that we are NOT a Christian/religious country -- especially as far as our government is concerned. /s

Always remember that we are descended (literally or culturally) from a bunch of wierdos who couldn't hang in there in the dominant paradigm and had a hard time finding North America and couldn't find Virginia. And those are the ancestors we brag about! As the English love to remind themselves (and us), "America was populated by the 'sweepings of Europe'". (When we're not listening, what they say is a lot worse!) (And even closer to the truth!)

And here we are--the richest, most powerful, most just, best educated, and probably the most sophisticated nation the world has ever known!

Kinda renews your faith in the human race.

It's also kinda reassuring that maybe our descendants won't be too hard on us.

They pronounced u like v, and vice vera, and "ye" was pronounced "the". The reading of this compact would sound a lot more like modern English.
