My opinion, you don't need government help, ie, taxpayer's footing the bills, sorry. What works just fine is that you adopt what you can afford both time and financially. Whatever happened to the support of extended family, church and community to show how to live a proper and blessed life? Too many parents are adopting when they don't have time to be with these children and rely on government therapist to guide them.

I am saying this as a family member who has been through the process WITHOUT government support of any kind. My dear parents, my sisters and I made sure we as a family poured love to this child so that the abuse she had didn't affect the rest of her life. She's a happy mother in her 30's now.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING. GEESH

The poster is a single mother willing to keep four siblings together. She's willing to give them a "forever" home where probably no one else will. She - like many others - probably couldn't do this without help. Maybe she doesn't have extended family members who have the money to pay for extensive medical bills. Are you saying it's better for these kids to get bounced through the foster care system and more than likely separated than for the taxpayers to assume some of the burden that they are ALREADY assuming?

I get no goverment support for reasons I won't get into, not the least of which is that my husband makes a very good income. However, even with his income and decent medical insurance, my kids' physical and emotional medical care has been very expensive. There are plenty of middle class people who could never adopt if it wasn't for the fact that the government (yes, we the taxpayers) would continue to assume some of the burden for the health costs of these kids.

These children will be getting the very best chance at a normal life, which means a future adult life NOT on the taxpayer's dole. In my opinion, that is a win/win situation. She has children, the kids get a mother, and the taxpayers are quite possibly relieved of four future criminals.

ME? I'd like to see all kids adopted into homes with two parents - one male, one female, and a good enough income that one parent can stay home with the children, because - yes - these children are very needy. Well, that's not going to happen. One parent getting some help from the government is better than being bustled about the foster care system.

And let me tell you one more thing while I'm on my high horse. If LOVE could solve all the problems my adopted children have, they would have NO problems. They have a large extended family, older siblings who dote on them, a mother and a father who adore them, blah, blah, blah. They still have significant issues. As a matter of fact, one child is borderline mentally retarded due to his birth mother's drinking while pregnant. Ever saw LOVE cure that?

There are plenty of children languishing in fostercare, and there would be even more if everyone felt like you. Thank God they don't.
