Democrats' Suicide Impulse Emerging
Human Events ^ | 11-17-06 | Michael Reagan

Just days after winning control of the House and Senate, Democrats have stopped gloating over their victory long enough to turn on each other in a spasm of self-destructive behavior.

To start their triumphant march towards January, when they will assume actual control over the House, Democrats handed Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi a humiliating defeat in her first effort to assert her control of her party.

By a vote of 140 to 86, they rejected her hand-picked candidate to be Majority Leader, the ethically challenged John Murtha, and elected her current number-two man in the leadership, Steny Hoyer, with whom she has anything but a cordial relationship.

I'm sure it has been posted elsewhere, but there is a HUGE pic on the front page of the NYT with Murtha looking like he ate a frog and is about to puke it on the back of Nancy's shoes.

Just mentioned on the PA FR board - what about Haley Barbour?

Or Zell Miller?

Or Mike Huckabee?

Or Kay Bailey Hutchinson?

There are a lot of possibilities. It doesn't have to be Rudy or McCain, no matter how much the MSM wants that to be the race.

We just got dumped. We don't want to marry the Rebound Guy. It's time to date around a bit before we settle down in 2008.

The Democrats are socialist idiots and the Republicans are incompetent big spenders of our taxes. What's the difference?

If the Democrats had been smart they would have elected someone else to be Speaker.

My thoughts exactly. Why did they vote unanimously for Pelosi and then smack her down on Murtha?

Well, it is what some call "typso' - sort of a typo which throws the sharper light on the subject and reveals it more fully . it is formed from "defective". "ethically defecative" means "having sh*tty ethics".

Let's just pretend that's true. Since it doesn't make any difference, why are you wasting your time in a political forum? Why not do something productive with your time, like taking up knitting?

Or are you just here to whine?

It doesn't make any difference, so just give up.

Conservatives, Don't be fooled.

Hoyer is a veritible Washington insider. His ethical challenges simply pass legal muster.

I agree. I'd vote for Zell Miller in a heartbeat. But whoever we settle on, we'd better get it right. We Republicans got our clocks cleaned this time 'round, and the thought of watching Pelosi, Kennedy and the rest screw America over for the next 2 years turns my stomach.
The stakes are too high to allow them to stay in power. Whomever the Republican candidate is in '08, he (or she) had better be a pit bull, not a poodle.

I thought it might be something like that. "Defecative" should be formally entered into the flexicon.

Am I the only one who is skeptical of this nomination?

Me too. Way too much red meat for Rush to put Murtha in there. Same thing will happen with Alcee Hastings.

We've underestimated Pelosi, I think. We have to start taking her as a threat, not just a joke. She's been dealt a tough hand with the moonbats on her left, the Blue Dogs on her right, a bunch of campaign promises to fulfill and the senate holding a filibuster-proof margin of Republicans and Bush's veto pen waiting.

It looks almost unwinnable for our Nancy. But so far, no real misstep. It's a little disquieting that she's become so careful and disciplined.

Love Haley. Best pol during Katrina by a mile (including Brownie, Cherthoff, and Bush). He really shined amidst all the confusion and blame games. Just did his job, looked ahead, exuded confidence and work ethic. He's very articulate, knows and defends conservative policy without sounding like a wonk or a tool.

Like Prez Bush I, he also chaired the RNC. Very successfully. A southern governor who could play very well to the Red states with a good chance at Florida and Ohio.

Maybe Barbour and Duncan in 08. Or Barbour and Pence.

Like a sweet dream come true.

She's going to get another one handed to her over Harmon. No way, after she so stupidly laid the gaunlet down over ethics, is she going to get Hastings approved for INTELLIGENCE. I'm not even sure he can qualify as an impeached judge, can he? How's he going to get his clearance?

We have Socialist Security, Socialist Medicare, Socialist Medicaid, Federal Education Act of 1965, Billions in wasted dollars everywhere I look, ETC. Both parties endorse socialism. Need a new party - the Reagan Party.

Am I the only one who is skeptical of this nomination? I think she did it to appease the far left crowd, knowing the whole time that he would not get selected

How dare you apply the use of critical judgment to this schadenfreude fest?

Blame the media. They wanted Murtha elected in PA., but they knew of his Abscam problem, they didnt want him second in the House so they "revealed" His problem and drove the Dems away from him. The liberal media is running the Dem party.

As for Hoyer he isnt any great prize either, but IMO he is a lot smarter than Murtha. Pelosi is a sly old broad, she is no political newcomer, she was born into Democrat graft corruption and mob connections.
