The Post made defeating George Allen a crusade. What is their next one?

"tightening up the paper's news hole,"

Looks like more fallout from the gay marriage bans across the U.S.

Downie called it nothing less than an "opportunity to transform journalism for a new era." He added that it is "the most important change that I will lead as executive editor. It reminds me of my early days in the newsroom, when Ben Bradlee began boldly transforming the paper during the 1960s and 1970s."

I can just imagine this guy, pontificating like John EFF Kerry, telling his "war" stories.

cracking down on story length

Hmmm, writing overly long stories is usually a sign of insufficient ad revenue. So what will they fill the space with?

This includes a plan to "shrink" the newsroom, "tightening up the paper's news hole," cracking down on story length and moving reporters and editors "within and among staffs." The Post is now suffering from regular circulation declines.

I think this might be more accurately described as "puckering up the news hole."

"Ahh.. to be a journalism student today."

HA!!
One'll reap what they sow, or so it's said.
Let the "harvest" begin. {g}

"So full of ideals and integrity..."

Alice Cooper wrote a song about high ideals & integrity, once.
"I used to be such a sweet-sweet thing, 'til they got ahold of me..."

"...only to throw it away on rewriting anti-American proaganda..."

Hate to admit it, but, it took me a respectable number of years before it sunk through my thick head the media -- whatever mode -- is under no obligation -- whatsoever -- to be fair, balanced or anything but what they are.
HTH I ever got it in my head it was otherwise I'll never know but I sure *gottit*, now. ;^)

"...from the European press."

Man, you've said a lot with those few words.
I've spoke with/know damned few people -- here or elsewhere -- who're aware the worst of the worst Liberal-Socialist [read: quasi-communist] dreck we're bombarded with 24/7 stateside comes straight from Europe, particularly Great Britain.

WTH's in the water over there, anyway.

...mighty unhappy people, all.
