I heard JD saying and I think it was on the Hugh Hewitt show that his opponent was aping his immigration stance.

Is this true? Or was JD lying?

Not to mention a referendum on English as the official state language, which passed with 73%.

1) The amendment to make English the oficial language passed overwhemingly, as did other intiatives having to do with preservation of the American culture and our border by the people of Arizona.

2) J.D.'s opponent ran as a border hawk.

3) When you can find a way to explain how intiatives favored by border hawks passed by more then merely a small margin, around 70%?, and explain away how a Democrat won with the same position as J.D. on the border, and somehow find a way to tie this all into a rejection of enforcing the border? I'll listen. But I don't think you can do it because logically your claim doesn't make a damn bit of sense when one looks at these pesky little details.

He ran as a border hawk.

I didn't say he was one, just that like all Liberals he lied and spun himself as Tancredo to neutralize his opponent on the issue.

Pelosi said impeachement was off the table. Did you believe her? She still said it.

Daschle ran a campaign ad hugging Bush in 2004 pretending to be his best friend.

How they run and what they believe are two separate issues. The only question is whether they can fool enough people into believing they are what they claim.

It says much about you that you would use CNN as your source for this pro-amnesty puff piece. Nothing like unbiased news or unslanted views right Dane? LOL! Pathetic!!

It sure seemed like a loser issue on the propositions, buddy. *again sarcasm*

yep, just heard. I don't think we've heard the last of him. Hopefully he'll still be a voice for immigration issues......even out of office. So sad.

Graf was a religious right creationist conservative in a marginal district, not all that friendly to that cohort. I suspect a lot of my wing of the party ran for the exits.

States like NH may already be gone, and Colorado, Arizona and Nevada are showing signs of slipping away because of these issues. Moderates are souring on the Republican Party because of perception issues. I recall "back in the day" when a Republican could easily win a California Congressional district that had a 10% Democrat registration edge because the Pubbie would get the indies and get a large Dem crossover vote. No longer.

1) That people want immigration issues solved doesn't translate into a "fence only" answer. Most people understand that it's more complicated than that, but J.D. didn't acknowledge that fact.

2) J.D.'s opponent supported a comprehensive solution. J.D. didn't.

3) As explained above, J.D. didn't have the same position as the Dem who won.

The bottom line is that someone who is rabid about "border fences first", and we'll consider other measures later, was going to vote for J.D. no matter what. But a moderate that understands that the issue is far more complicated will not vote for someone who apparently doesn't understand that, even though both support dealing with immigration issues.

J.D. and the house Republicans got their fence, but held their ears saying "LaLaLaLaLa" to anything more complex, and they lost. Get it?

Besides Hayworth, which House members who were enforcement first lost their seats to challengers proposing "comprehensive" legislation?
