TFB. It's not the ones that can trace their roots back 200 yrs that we're worried about.

I think some of the concerns come down to application of these laws. Will the renter with an Anglo surname have to go through the same checks to prove citizenship/legal alien staus as the the renter with an Hispanic surname?

That is just a liberal argument to knock down a good law. Everyone will have to give proof of citizenship. Will the landlords scutinize the proof from Hispanics more thoroughly? Probably, but that is just the way it has to be when we have so many illegal Mexican aliens committing document fraud. If you are a citizen, you have proof, so it doesn't make any difference in the end.
