The democrat's campaign was to show him side by side with Bush, knowing that this election was a vote against Bush, rather than a vote for a candidate.
He is one of the strong conservatives of the party and IMO, a better choice than Newt.

How conservative is Steele? I really don't know many of his true policy positions. (I heard Ken Mel. is a homosexual and the base who knew this was a tad upset)
