Did you ever wonder why Clinton continues to get high approval ratings? Earlier I talked about movie stars, etc. influencing the vote. The Clintons knew this, and they made use of that quite well.
During the Clinton years I quit reading news magazines and avoided shows where I thought he might appear. I read a lot of decorating and cooking magazines, non-political stuff.
I was astounded when Clinton started showing up in every place...House Beautiful carried Hillary on the cover (first time ever they carried someone's photo and not a room), they showed up in the movie magazines at the beauty shop, guested on TV comedies, and (my favorite) in an antique price mazagine which had currrent prices on cast-iron banks, the FEATURED photo was a BILL CLINTON PLAYING THE SAXOPHONE bank (which of course was not an antique)!
Those people who couldn't recognize a photo of Cheney when questioned on the street by Leno, knew who Bill CLinton was and had a vague impression he must be "cool."
And their votes count as much as ours.
The Clinton product placement was a result of their supporters being in those fields - almost every media outlet except 'conservative' magazines that we can name because they are so few - is run and staffed by libs.
No conseevative will ever get that kind of endorsement.
I understand what you mean, though. Conservatives have to find some way to get the "product" in front of the non-political masses. Obviously talk radio is only speaking to us already, and major advertisers are afraid to be associated with us. Sean Hannity and GM being a huge exception.
I feel contempt for every Republican who did not support President Bush during this election. They demonstrated cowardice, and so voters agreed that it was not a good idea to support the Bush Doctrine and administration. We will never know what the results would have been with a united front, but it is quite possible that not as many seats would have gone over to the Dems.
Let me add to your observations.
Another difference during the Clinton years was the ubiquitous presence of cabinet secretaries on the news and talk shows---constantly pushing his agenda (especially Rubin). These past few years I've seen Condi and Rummy occasionally. But I rarely see others.
You know what a BushBot I am. But I would be hard pressed to name more than a few of his cabinet---Rummy, Condi, Gonzales, Nicholson (just because yesterday was Vets Day). I admit I had to look up Paulson at Treasury. Where have they been? Why do we never see them or hear them making news?
Have you noticed this?
LOL, if that ever happens to me, you might as well sic the Queer Eye show on me, it's all over.
Good point about the Clintons and product placement. They do seem to get odoriferous, er, omnifarious coverage.
I suspect maica is right about it being the result of their supporters being in those fields.
Imagine what we'd see if conservatives were in charge of the MSM...[insert dream sequence music]....
Talking about triangulating into the Hollywood machine, if Geffen succeeds in buying the LATimes, the Clintons have their free message forum for the next two years.
