I sure hope that the House and Senate don't take their eye off the ball of Islamic terrorism--getting caught up in all this tit for tat crap puts us in danger--I live too dangerously close to Ground Zero to want to have to worry about a distracted President and a shrill media who loves to create circuses.

BTW...she's not "Speaker" Pelosi until January! Don't have to call her that until then!

John Gibson just stated that Rep. Conyers has announced that since Speaker Pelosi said that impeachment is 'off the table' that there will be no impeachment of President Bush.
This worries me if true. Signs that they're a disciplined cadre and focused on a goal. Not good.
Still, they can still go after Cheney and Halliburton and investigate and indict and call for special prosecutors. Look what they did with Libby over nothing. Still, if they were sure they could get him, it wouldn't matter what Pelosi promised, they'd try to force him out.

I want them to attack the President. I think it will galvanize the base for '08.

They can't do an impeachment, the american people at large would hate it, and it would energize the republicans.
But by announcing ahead of time that they WON'T do it, they are acknowledging that all the stuff they've said the last six years was a lie, because if it was true Bush would DESERVE to be impeached.
Further, it enrages all those people who just gave them millions of dollars and thousands of hours of time making phone calls and walkng door to door, all in the belief that when the democrats won, they would impeach Bush, Cheney,and apparently the entire cabinet except for Norm Mineta.
Meanwhile, Pelosi is assuming she will be speaker of the house, but I don't know how she is positive all the new people will vote for her -- I guess it's a forgone conclusion, but it IS an election of the entire house, and it isn't a coronation. We were going to put Livingstone in the position and something came up and he dropped out, I suppose it could happen to her.
But assuming she is speaker, she's also apparently blocking all "hawk" democrats from having chairs, like Jane Harman (a sane democrat). This will certainly upset quite a few people with seniority, and should make independents think twice about democrat leadership.
It isn't easy running the country -- we saw the republicans botch it up pretty good the last couple of years, and I don't know if the democrats CAN do it worse but I have trouble imagining they will do it BETTER.

As a person who had some involvement in Clinton's impeachment, here are my impressions -
* Conyers is lying.
* Pelosi cannot be trusted.
* The hard-left faction of the Democratic Party is foaming at the mouth to get Bush impeached.
* A lot depends on whether the media play along.

The Dems won't impeach the President. Look what impeachment did for the Republicans. Not a damn thing.

What wimp Pelosi and Conyers are! Their base, people like the DUmmies, have waited six years for this moment, and they're now going to deprive their base of it? If Tuesday showed anythign, it's that you can't win by peeing off your base.
