I seem to remember New York getting about $20 billion in standalone funding to compensate for 9/11 and there were quite a few people from the Deep South who went there as firefighters, rescue people and even to clean apartments of dust and debris from the Trade Center.

...which we promptly wasted on things that had nothing directly to do with the cleanup or getting Lower Manhattan back on its feet, like rebuilding the subway station at South Ferry a mile away. And then, we whine that we're not getting our fair share of federal money.

Newsflash to Charlie Rangel and the New York Democrat Congressional delegation: we don't get back what we pay in federal taxes because you always try to raise taxes on the so-called rich - those making over $100,000 a year. Heck, under Bloomberg's new teacher contract, some NYC teachers will be earning over $100,000. There are probably more so-called rich New York City residents than Mississippi residents. Why? Well for one, the cost of living here is higher than in Mississippi, and $100,000 doesn't go all that far here. Stop hiking (or as the Democrats like to call it "rolling back") taxes on the so-called rich, and New York will get back more of its fair share in taxes.

Why New Yorkers continue to elect these idiots is beyond me. I apologize to all Mississippians on behalf of all New Yorkers. I know HE won't apologize.

We get nowhere near our fare share of federal money.

The reason Bloomberg went for the teacher raise was to keep the teachers from getting poached by places like Scarsdale after we poach them from places like Dallas.
The typical story goes like this: teacher with an advanced degree moves from Dallas to NYC for a $20,000 pay increase. Spends five years in the system and then takes off to Westchester for another $30,000 increase.
