Ah, I just thought of something that would shock me even more... the President switching parties.

Wouldn't that be a gut-buster?

* relax * I'm just musing on what would shock me more at this point.

Try President Bush resigning. That ought to get you shocked. I doubt it will happen, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. It just depends on how deeply he is personally wounded by all of this.

There was an old Saturday Night Live sketch back in 2000. President Bush was in the White House, having just begun his term. He kept saying, "Being President is hard." Cheney had to keep calming him down.

There are many who believe that George W. Bush was more of a shadow than a real President. I'm not one of them, but there are lots of folks who think that. If, by some chance, that was the case, then he's got to be feeling it pretty heavily right now.

I've never seen him as that strong a character. He doesn't do that well off the cuff, or at press conferences. He often seems to run out of things to say when the situation isn't carefully controlled.

If, and I emphasise "if," it was true that his position was that of a figurehead, then a resignation seems like a real possibility to me.

He certainly seems demoralized today.
