God wanted the Hebrew children to enter the promised land. The people refused when 10 of 12 spies came back and said the people living there were giants. God made them wander for fourty years.
God fed the people on heavenly mana and the people complained they wanted quail. So, God gave them what they wanted, and it made them sick.
God is in control, but sometimes he gives the majority what they want, despite the warnings of the minority.
