Election Day 2006 will be remembered as a turning point in American political history. Twenty-five years after the Reagan Administration came to Washington with a conservative agenda of limited government, the American people chose a different course.
It is the duty of the losing party in a free election to humbly accept defeat and to acknowledge that the people are sovereign in the People's House.
As we examine the results of this election, it is imperative that we listen to the American people and learn the right lessons.
Some will argue that we lost our majority because of scandals at home and challenges abroad. I say, we did not just lose our majority, we lost our way.

Amen. Now, it's payback time for the Republicans. Give back to the Liberal slimes what they gave us for the past 6 years, e.g., covert dirty tricks, call them liars, and investigate everything in their backgrounds and current dealings. If it was good for the Liberals, it should be good for the Republicans.

God bless your son and your family. I have known a number of young people with Down's Syndrome over the years, and they were all sweet and loving.
Those people are not going to let themselves be fed to the lions like they were in 92 by Clinton.
The Republicans can form a coalition with them over key issues like we did in the 80's with those.
Likewise in the Senate, a number of those Senators won as 'moderates' not Liberals, for example in Montana (which I do not think we are going to win).
The Democrats had to make a ideological compromise in order to win control of the House by running 'conservative' candidates and I do not see those same candidates settling for only a two year stay for a bunch of radical nonsense.
They go back and forth between fake handwringing and gnashing of teeth to giddyness at how disappointed we "Bots" are.
The cons have become very self-absorbed and convinced their way is the only way (like liberals) and this just proves what dead weight they've become to us.

With that in mind, I can only hope the bloggers get to work immediately and start a "count-down" attack along the lines of - 'Democrats, you have had the house for _____days and still our troops are dying'
Just like the scabby left media counted down the number of deaths in 911 tallied against troops who died for America...give it back to them in spades!!

I totally agree with you. We have listened to the weaklings in the left tell us that we need to compromise with them, so we did.
We were told that we had to embrace their ideas and work together, and we did.
We were told to put aside party politics to move this nation forward, and we did.
We did everything they wanted and we got what we deserve.
Our republican and conservative leaders were to damn busy trying to placate the left that they forgot who the hell voted them into office to represent US.

Majorities voted against eminent domain for raising taxes. When the SC declared that constitutional, I thought it was an issue that would resonate with most Americans. It did, but most never knew that it was the liberals on the Court that voted for it. Republicans did not toot their own horn well, from W on down.
The left has the MSM do this for them at no cost. It wouldn't work for conservatives anyway.
Oh please. Congress changed hands because it did not use its Republican majority to effectively pursue a Republican agenda. What are the accomplishments over the last six years? The war on terror at least on the domestic front, a couple of tax cuts, and two conservative appointments to the SCOTUS. Despite a significant Republican majority in both houses as well as the White House, we still do not have anything that resembles a realistic energy policy, social security reform, school vouchers, fiscal responsibility, or smaller government. And while the Dems are as corrupt as ever, some of our reps aren't much better. The bottom line is that there has been a gross failure of leadership in both houses, and since the leadership is elected by the members who we nominate and elect, we have no one to blame but ourselves.
The Dems didn't win - the Republicans lost.
Iraq was clearly the largest failure - and it was a failure of vision and nerve, IMHO. Bush still had the country in his pocket when we went into Iraq. He could and should have gone in with more troops to finish the job more quickly - but he seemed afraid of the press/media reaction.
2nd, the Republicans did lose their way - they spent like drunken sailors, and they failed miserably to settle the immigration problem. Had those 2 areas been attended to properly, IMHO we'd still be talking about Speaker Hastert.
The 3rd problem was with corruption and stupid statements. It wasn't a huge factor, but it didn't help at all. Foley and Allen's idiotic macaca statement lost the Republicans seats. OK, the Dems do stupid stuff, too; you expect a certain amount of it, but that alone shouldn't (and usually doesn't) decide elections on a national level.
The Republicans need to regrow a pair. They need to stand in the middle of the train tracks with their hands out shouting "STOP!!!" I expect to see Senate filibusters of the idiotic, impractical and unconstitutional crap that the Dems will inevitably try to put on Bush's desk, and when these things land on his desk anyway I expect to see vetoes. If the Republicans cannot do this, then we will have to relearn the phrase "President Clinton" in 2008 and all will be lost.
Pence is a good man - I just hope that he, and people like him, can find the b@lls and backbone of the Republican Party.

Limbaugh is on the same kick, claiming Republicans lost but conservatism won.
He's got it backwards.
Republicans lost because the country did not want "real true conservatives".
Maybe that's sad, but it's fact, and until Republicans deal with it they will be a mess.
Dems are in the same boat. Just imagine what a landslide they'd had if their party weren't as equally fractured.
