We'll see. Seems to me power/authority moderates ppl. Look at the Clinton years. Hell, look at how much the GOP faithful have been willing to stomach from our leaders just to maintain power. The stupid RX bill, education bill, etc etc. If we were out of power, whoever advanced that crap would be run out on a rail. But when you have something to protect, it gives you an incentive to compromise and choose your battles. So we said, think about the SCOTUS, or think about the war, and ate the rest. Maybe I am wrong, but the DEMs will have to do the same. Yes, they are kooks, and yes, they have a kook fringe to contend with, but I don't think it'll be total lunacy. Call me an optimist I guess.

I don't think it was to maintain power as much as it was to keep the liberals OUT of power. At least it was for me. Well, that and the war and also I had high hopes for at least one more successful SCOTUS pick. I was willing to stomach almost anything to make it 5 to 4 in our favor. No telling how much unconstitutional socialist crap we could've rolled back with a majority of constitutionalists on the court... regardless of which party put it in.
