I agree but I think that we had lots of notice on this from the polls that we ignored. I think that in 2008 we listen to the polls (regardless where they come from) and do something to ensure a change in the polls. I can't believe that we let this get this bad especially since we were told over and over again. I know that FREEPERS hate polls because of previous elections, but obviously they were true this time. I am pretty sick to my stomach over this.

I plead guilty to not trusting the polls this time after all those other years. Especially the exit polls. They all weren't dead-on, but as you say, they were pointed in the right direction. I chose to ignore not due to naivete, but I really believed the GOTV operation was there and couldn't really accept Americans really would put the Dems in charge at this period in our history, even with some GOP disenchantment. I was wrong. Completely and utterly wrong, and I am as nauseous as you about it :(

The GOTV coordinator at the phone banks was telling me for the last couple of weeeks that it was going to be bad...

I didn't believe her, because of all the (unwarranted) optimism here.

I'm afraid my worst fears about President Bush being unwilling to fight for Conservative principles, and Rove and Mehlman's betraying conservatives, may just be coming true.

But then, Califronia, with Gerald Parsky (sp?) the liberal GOP head recruited by Rove, seems to be doing okay...

Maybe the American people just do not want good, principled gov't. I always thought we were different from Europeans, who always seemed so unprincipled, soft and dissolute, but it may be that they are not.

I guess if that's the case, we can start dusting off old Roman speeches about the end of Empire when the citizens care more about bread and circuses than having good ogvernments.

I think that we all were in the same boat with this. However, I think that we can use the polls to our advantage. For example, if we have a five point loss in a poll we could get an immediate GOTV drive where we call people and perhaps do a commercial as soon as the poll comes out instead of waiting until the last couple weeks. It might work.
