If most the close races go to the dems the MSM will claim a wave and the people want change. But if the close races go Republican they'll claim the country is split.

Corker is not a shoe in. His numbers are bad from East TN. Ford still well in the hunt.

The same thing appears to be happening here in New Hampshire. Both of our congressmen- moderate conservatives - are losing to hard-core leftists because they dared to support the war. This is a traditionally Republican state - the last one in the Northeast - and now it's gone. Our state legislature may well go from Republican to Democrat-controlled as well. And why? The economy is not just good - it's tremendous - 3.1% unemployment in NH, growth apparent everywhere. Doesn't matter, though - people are pissed about the war. They've given up, and they want out, because it's hard to deal with the reality of a transnational enemy that wants to kill you, when you'd far rather be thinking about buying that new HDTV, or trying to score tickets for the next Pats' game. Myopia isn't just for eyes - it affects brains as well. God help us.

When "Conservatives" attack their own, when the Right does not fight to win and plays the get along game, when politics is played by one side as if it were a guerrilla war and the other side plays it without the cohesion of a fighting force, you're going to get beaten. If things go badly for the Right, there will be wholesale cannibalism and the gutless will point fingers and hurl accusations.

Republicans have a lot to learn about being a majority and crushing their opposition without mercy. The Right could have torn the Left apart, but the Right hadn't the will nor the presence of leaders with a killer instinct.

Too damned bad.

As for who's to blame.....we all have mirrors, don't we.

They will get them, my worst nightmare is coming true, a Speaker Pelosi.

Just think. Tax hikes, Bush impeachment, victory for terrorists in Iraq and every liberal dream come true. This should be wonderful.

She's had some tough races before, they finally caught up with her. CT likes to turn over its reps after a while, even Rats like Gejdenson get beat.

When all is said and done, I think we will learn that it was not the moderate Republicans that sunk us, but rather the independents. There are an awful lot of voters that are not affiliated with either party. The math is simple. We cannot win anything with just Republicans.

We are going to get about 15 House seats in the 2010 Census shifting from Blue states to Red states. Even with Rat control of several of those states, this should be good for +10 House seats in the 2012 election cycle.

so they are throwing out (reducing) the one body that stopped it - the republican House. that analysis makes no sense.

Like I said, the GOP immigration policy depressed the base and hurt everyone. It just hit the House more because everyone was up for re-election. If the everyone in the Senate was up for re-election then the GOP would have lost a lot more seats than they have.

We tried to warn the GOP that the immigration marches in the spring would depress the base and it did.

Again, a falling tide lowers all boats. The house just got hit the hardest because all of them were up for re-election.

Gosh, I listened to him on CNN for a while tonight; he BREATHES so HEAVILY in between each sentence, I don't see how anybody can stand to listen to him.

The only one worse is Anderson Cooper, who literally sounds like he's GASPING for breath.

It must be a CNN thing.

I agree whole heartedly. At the polls today where I worked there was not doubt that the tried and true conservaties marked their ballots for the pubbies even though they had to hold their nose. It was not the conservatives that lost this election it was the moderates in our party that deserted. As it was in the past and ever shall be.

"I've said it a thousand times, you play the race to win the majority of votes of the moderates, not just your conservative base."

And because "moderate" is just another term for "socially liberal", you have to tick off the Christian conservatives to please them.

But that's okay with the "moderates".

I'm not the biggest McCain fan, but he its actually shaping up that he is the only prayer for the GOP in 2008.

Tell me who else can pull it off?

Guilliani has too much personal baggage.

Everyone else? Ain't gonna happen.

Might as well learn to deal with it. Its McCain or nothing. I'd rather have someone else, but he is far better than any Dem.

Don't agree? Give me a legit person who can win in this environment

" There are many people who are incredibly angry about the border issue."

My friend's sister-in-law, a lifelong GOP voter, sat out the vote because she is so angry at the illegal aliens flooding this nation.

I see it here in Oregon, construction sites and restaurants are almost entirely 100% native Mexican workers that cannot speak English. I don't think any of them are legal, and no one seems to care.

Firefighting crews, too, are almost entirely Mexican. There's no way that that native-born Anglos are that unqualified for fire-fighting, construction and restaurant work that they are never hired, so it has to be that the Latinos are being paid substandard wages, or wages under the table.

I'm sick at heart at the way this country is headed...

Ed
