That used o be the case, not it's really international. Dennis Conner took it from Newport, RI to San Diego before letting it slip off to Australia. Now the Kiwi's are into it bad, too. It will be some time before it returns to newport, I fear.

Conner lost it in Newport in '82 sailing for the New York Yacht Club (which was the holder of the Cup) and won it back in Perth in '86 sailing for the San Diego Yacht Club (his home) and brought it back to San Diego.
