The really depressing thought is how awful Dole was as NRCC chair.

We could have had a real shot at

Nebraska
North Dakota
Florida
West Virginia

if she would have recruited good people

No time to cry over that now, we just need to be sure that in 2008 we field the right candidates in the Red and Purple States.

In the 2008 election cycle, we have

TAKEOVER OPPORTUNITIES:
DEMOCRATS IN RED STATES: Rockefeller(WV), Johnson(SD), Baucus(MT), Pryor(AR),Landrieu(LA),
DEMOCRATS IN PURPLE STATES: Harkin(IA), Levin(MI)

UPGRADE OPPORTUNITIES:
RINOS IN RED STATES: Graham*(SC), Hagel*(NE),
RINOS IN PURPLE STATES: Coleman(MN), Smith(OR)

HOLD SITUATIONS:
CONSERVATIVES IN PURPLE STATES: Sununu(NH),Domenici(NM),Allard(CO)

HOLD OR ABANDON?:
RINOS IN BLUE STATES: Collins(ME)

Dole is the NRSC chair, and blaming her is pretty lame. Every election has recruiting failures.

You've had a long time to get over it, but apparently have not yet succeeded. Perhaps if you'd put more effort into getting conservatives elected, you wouldn't be wasting so much negative energy on old news now.

The really depressing thought is how awful Dole was as NRCC chair.

And how awful Frist was as Senate Majority Leader, with RINOs like McCain, Chafee, Snow and Specter running wild...

Few have criticized a Dole any less than I, but I really don't think E. Dole is responsible for what happens today. And she has been more conservative in her voting record than I ever imagined.

"if she (Dole) would have recruited good people"

I don't know about the other states, but in WV the first requirement to be the Republican nominee (sacrificial lamb) is you MUST be a self financing multi-millionaire because the Republican party isn't going to give you the time of day or act like they know you, let alone spend one red cent on your campaign.
