But this provides the underpinning of a meeting I infiltrated as an investigative reporter for a statewide paper in the spring of '82.
Kennedy had lost the primary to Carter - and next, Reagan came on the scene.
Kennedy was the (tarnished) Knight of the American Socialist Party - who were posed to come out in the open once they got him in the Oval Office.
However, with these hopes dealt a major blow when Kennedy couldn't even get the party nomination, they regrouped to plan recoup strategy.
In the spring of 82, they organized DSOC (Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee) meetings across he country.
In Maine, this meeting was literally in the shadow of our capitol dome - "NO PRESS allowed!"
So I got 'grunged up" and infiltrated the meeting with a voice activated recorder in my pocket.
Their main speaker was our State Senate Majority leader who, taking a card from his pocket, opened with: "I, like you, am a card carrying socialist" - and went on to lament Kennedy's defeat meant they couldn't come out in the open and their new strategy would be to totally infiltrate, on every level (from town committees and government on up) the democratic party and succeed in their socialist takeover from there.
That was 24 years ago. They have been successful in taking over the party. That is obvious. What is not obvious to me is why we are not calling them what they are - "Zel, this is where your party has gone."
Now with these revelations about Kennedy's treasonous actions - we have a chance to get it in the open for the sheeple to see and understand.
