Lou Dobbs Gives Kudos to Wolf Blitzer, Blows Raspberries at Lynne Cheney (You've Got A Friend)
NewsBusters ^ | 10/29/2006 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 10/29/2006 1:05:47 PM PST by tobyhill

As NewsBusters previously reported, Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, had a rather heated interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Friday (video of entire must-see segment here). Seeming to recognize how poorly he performed, Blitzer needed some encouraging words from one of his colleagues. So, he brought on Lou Dobbs to pat him on the back, and chastise Cheney (video available here). After some niceties, Dobbs said:

Well, I, with all due respect, I don't believe Lynne Cheney could be more wrong, both in tone and in fact. The truth is that this government is not functioning. It is dysfunctional, in point of fact.

Government isn’t functioning? Great. Can I have my money back? After all, government seems to be collecting taxes, and spending like a drunken sailor. How is that different than how it has been functioning for the last 76 years? Ignoring such realities, Dobbs continued his government is broken-Lynne Cheney doesn't know what she's talking about tirade:

It's failing to secure our borders, it's failing to inspect cargo, five years after a terrorist attack on this country. It's inexcusable. Homeland security is nothing more than a sham being perpetrated right now, and sometimes aided and abetted by the national media, Wolf, as you well know.

Absolutely, the government is a big "Rube Goldberg" device and needs to be completely dismantled and what party does Dobbs thinks can best accomplish this? What party has obstructed all efforts to downsize the gov't? Now the republicans certainly have been absent from all efforts recently to give DC a big enema, but I prefer to believe this is a temporary phenomena and that they will rediscover their roots. We certainly know that the Dims are the party of huge gov't and have no intention of ever shrinking it. And additionally it is their party that has had the largest role in growing the past 76 years.

On a side note, Lou Dobbs has slightly less knowledge about business and the economy as my 'sack.

I heard Lynne Cheney's comments to Blitzer Friday night on Mark Levin's nationally syndicated radio program. Mrs. Cheney was not one to suffer fools lightly or their propaganda campaign to turn voters away from the republicans just days out of an election.

At CNN; are they journalists - or advocates?

Most Conservatives recognise Lou Dobbs to be a hack and a phony. The Peroites, Buchanites are so stupid and obsessed with single issues they dont seem to accept Dobbs is just using them to try to split the conservative vote, most Republicans are aware of this hack's tricks and his tactics and his futile attempts to supressing Conservatives from voting in the election.

Yes, Wolf Blitzer was somewhat taken aback. Apparently his parents survived the holocaust. He was born in America just after WW2, What can the man be thinking?

I saw his interview with Mrs Cheney and thought Wolf was a little lame. To his discredit, he, like a small boy, rushed to gain assurance from Mr Dobbs.

No sympathy here. His interview of President Karzai of Afghanistan, was an absolute disgrace to the "profession" of journalism. President Karzai needs absolutely all the positives he can get. Blitzer talked down to that good man in severe fashion.

I said I would forever be satisfied when the vote count in Florida was challenged. When the electoral college vote could swamp GWB,I prayed for him.

Ah once more dear friends, just once- to see Wolfie bravely smiling through his tears, Nov 8th next. LOL

Dobbs lost his money in a dot bomb. He then began the rant against outsourcing and has moved on to those evil republicans aren't fixing immigration. Nevermind that it's the dems who don't want immigration fixed.

Dobbs can kiss my grits.

Mrs. Second Lady was invited on the show to discuss her book. Blitzed opened the door to politics by bringing up a comment the Vice President made about dunking terrorists in water.

Blitzed opened the door and Mrs. Second Lady barged in with a howitzer! Oh I loved it! LOLOLOL

Dobbs: Radical groups taking control of immigrant movement

Originally a classically conservative economist, Dobbs' views have evolved over time, and he is now a strongly populist critic of the "excesses of capitalism," which he identifies as globalization, offshore outsourcing, illegal immigration, free trade deals, corporate/big business influence in government and the Bush administration's tax cuts. He advocates fair trade, warning that the U.S. trade and budget deficits threaten the American middle class.

Dobbs joined CNN when it launched in 1980, serving as its chief economics correspondent and as host of the business news program CBS News Sunday Morning on CBS. Dobbs also served as a corporate executive for CNN, as its executive vice president and as a member of CNN News Chief Iran Correspondent’s executive committee. He also founded CNNfn (CNN financial news), serving as its president and anchoring the program, Business Unusual, which examined business creativity and leadership. In 1999, Dobbs started Space.com, a Web-based multimedia company dedicated to space education and entertainment.

Dobbs left CNN in 2000, reportedly due to heated clashes with its president, Rick Kaplan, one of which actually occurred on-air when Kaplan suggested cutting from CNN News to the live address by President Bill Clinton at Columbine, which Dobbs believed was a staged event and not newsworthy. [4] Kaplan left CNN in August 2000 and Dobbs returned the following year at the behest of his friend and CNN founder Ted Turner, becoming host and managing editor of the new and initially more general news program Lou Dobbs Reporting, which later became CNN News Sunday Morning. Dobbs also hosts a nationally syndicated radio show, The Lou Dobbs Financial Report, and he is a regular columnist in Money magazine, U.S. News & World Report and the New York Daily News.

Dobbs has described himself as a "lifelong Republican" [11], but has stated that he has switched to being an unaffiliated Independent as he no longer openly supports the Republican party[12]. Lou often describes the administration of George W. Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress as "disgraceful." At the same time he has argued voters have very little choice under the US two party system as both parties are controlled by big business and corporate interests making them almost one and the same and thus do not offer real debate or policy alternatives to ordinary Americans.

Dobbs' stance on trade has earned plaudits from some trade union activists [citation needed], on the traditional political left, while his stance on immigration tends to appeal to the right. In an interview with Larry King, Dobbs revealed that he is now "an unaffiliated Independent" due to dissatisfaction with both the Republican and Democratic parties. Dobbs was a strong supporter of John Kerry during the 2004 presidential election[citation needed], though his support was based on a dislike for the Bush administration than support for Kerry's platform, which he described as largely "more of the same."

In June 2006, as the U.S. Senate debated the Federal Marriage Amendment, Dobbs was highly critical of the action. He asserted that traditional marriage was threatened more by financial crises perpetuated by Bush administration economic policy than by gay marriage. [13]

In July 2006, Dobbs criticized U.S. foreign policy as being disproportionately supportive of Israel, pointing out the U.S.'s rapid recognition of Israel in 1948, foreign aid to Israel, and other policy choices in the past and present. [14] He likewise opposed the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.

Lou Dobbs holds strong views against what he calls the North American Union [3]. He also advocates new investigations into the governments response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, speculating that it would discover "perhaps, deception" on the part of the U.S. Government [4].

Lou Dobbs is the author of War on the Middle Class, which describes what he sees as failure of the two party system, and claims that both sides are harming the Middle Class. In it, he comes out strongly against the Bush tax cuts, which he argues favor the wealthy, and argues for raising the U.S. minimum wage from $5.15 an hour.

(Arkansas minimum wage is $6.25 an hour already!)

There are some freepers that are quick to defend Dobbs. I am not one of them. I have thought for a long time he was a POS. Dobbs coming to the defense of Blitzer over Lynne Cheney whom was AMBUSED by Blitzer, just shows Dobbs HAS NO CLASS. I agree with you, he can kiss my grits.

Yea she did! It was a woman of substance up against a talking head with more makeup on than she had. He didn't make one coherent comment, and was "blitzed" by a true patriot defending her country against a treasonous scum bag.
