I don't understand.
Surely these are 'enlightened' and tolerant Americans, who were perfectly fine with the idea of living in a Muslim country. Where was there attempt to 'reason' with the men beating on their door? Couldn't they have settled this as calm, rational people and come to an understanding? Surely there would have been apologies and goodwill if they had!

Tolerance is a Western ideal, and the Islamists hate Western ideals.
Islam doesn't seek multiculturalism.
Their goal is monoculturalism: one world under Islam.
They are not at war for tolerance, but at war with tolerance.
