When I watch a movie or listen to a song, the artists are telling me a story by becoming a character in that story, ie; I'm willfully suspending a portion of my reality to accept their character portrayal of a reality.
The less I know about the actor's personal life and belief system, the more successful they will be at telling me the story - and they will make more money because of it.
I happened to catch a little of their producer's time on H&C tonight, and no one could seem to articulate this simple fact.
Acting and singing are a couple of the few professions where the biggest single requirement for success - is to be an empty suit. The second biggest requirement is to be able to portray that emptiness successfully.
Fill that suit with anything but the next story and the career heads south simply because of that old political equation - no matter what side you are on, half the people will disagrees with you.
Fill that empty suit with a political view - any one - and one suddenly looses about half their following.
There. That's about as much as you've been able to get out of me in 10 years.
Great job so far K - I'll be watching in a few minutes.
Jim, there was a time on a patio, with beer, when this sort of thing was a dream ...
... you've gone from Bill Gates' garage to having old giants cower in your shadow.
Seriously.
Congratulations.
I'll pop in from time to time ...

Your post 156 is spot on.
I will add that it is not just politics but type casting too.
Bob Denver could never be anything but Gilligan and now the Dixie Chicks can never be anything but bimbo anti patriots.
