You know, I got the same impression.

My first thought was that this is a religion of:

No self control
Because the men can seem to keep their pants zipped and have to beat up on women to feel superior

Blame others first

a weak god or at least no faith in their god.
With their mouths they profess that their moon god is the greatest but then they have no faith, no trust, that their god's will is present on this earth. Therefore, they have to take it upon themselves to do the work of their god and smite those that their god seems to be unable to smite.

It is a pretty sad religion if you ask me.
