To: conservative in nyc

This is a pretty big loss for the gay marriage advocates. Gays nationwide were hoping to be able to run off to NJ to get married and then return to their home states and claim marital status. That can't happen now.

It is not a bit loss: the legislature may pass a gay marriage bill; or it may go to a referendum and it will be appealed. It will be litigated, have no fear. Corzine would sign a gay marriage law.

Here in Mass, we have the advantage of having been there before... the court didn't "punt" to the legislature; the legislature refuses to deal with it, despite the obvious popular opposition to same sex marriage.
