The State Department is filled with Arabists who are never wrong. It's always America who is in the wrong.
A friend of mine at the Embassy in Jeddah in 1981 said that almost all the senior staff there were suffering from "clientitis." This guy, a former Air Force officer, was one of the few there that seemed to be immune from that dread disease. I'm sure cardinal4 knows of whom I am speaking.
