A 6.5-magnitude earthquake shook homes and took out power across the state Sunday morning, according to a bulletin issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

It occurred six miles north-northwest of South Kona, Hawaii at 7:08 a.m. Sunday.

The earthquake was felt as far away at Lihue, Kauai, with many areas experiencing strong shaking.
No tsunami is expected.

On O'ahu there were reports of power outages all over O'ahu, from Hawai'i Kai to Kane'ohe to Kalihi Valley.

The Honolulu Fire Department is reporting that people are trapped in elevators due to the island-wide power outage.
