Little one.

Big enough.  Latest I've seen is over 6 on the Richter.  Or maybe that was a second shock?  I'm just catching up to this now.

It's on the big island?  Isn't that where the big fissure is?  The quake shows on the western side of the island, but I'm remembering that the fissure is on the eastern side.  At some point the prediction is that there will be a "long run out avalanche" from this island as the quarter to one third of the island beyond the fissure slumps down into the ocean, just like what has happened at all of the other Hawaiian islands, and that will result, according to theory, in a mega tsunami, waves 1,000 feet high when they hit the west coast of the US.  Or so the theory goes.

I always look at earthquakes in Hawaii and try to figure out if they are precursors to that kind of phenomenon.  I'm in Tennessee but have family in Washington state, the bay area and Los Angeles.

Yes, I was just upstairs watching that. I did get through to his cell phone but it went to voicemail. From the looks of it Honolulu was the furthest away from the epicenter, too.

The list shows 6.6 at 17:07 hours and 5.8 at 17:14 hours. Thats worse than labor pains.

The 6.3 got reevaluated to a 6.6, the 5.8 has disappeared into the background, though it was seven minutes after the original quake, just to the north. Here's the map off of the Hawaii geological service - the large blue square at the bottom is the initial quake, the blue one towards the top is the 5.8, and the recent 4.3 is near the middle.

No CNN at work, although I'm watching the streaming vid from the Hawaii Channel online. However, they've been confused at best.

It worries me that there has not been much news, good or bad, coming out of the tourist resorts north of Kona.

I was working at Warners, and made a beeline to the studio to try to save my gear. The magnitude of the quake really hadn't hit me until the guard waved me through the gate and said, "don't park under anything that can fall on you". The lot had no power, a number of the sides of the stages had fallen off, and we had major water lines broken.... yep, you're right, we were shell-shocked for a while.

The Hawaiian quake may have had a shock impact on the KITV graphics dude or dude-ess. They just put up a super that said, "No Elcetricity".

Oh my gosh...well, that's turning into quite an adventure for him, isn't it?

How long was he SUPPOSE to have stayed? And wonder if he'll get out when he was due to return.

Yuck. My guess is that I got the initial report, then the downgrade report, but never got the re-upgrade report on the 6'er - hence my confusion. :)

And no joke! Then again, it's more likely there'll be a huge aftershock within the first ten minutes than there is within the rest of the first hour. Northridge wasn't just a single quake - it was two big quakes spaced out by only seconds... so I admit, I was wondering if maybe it stuttered in Hawaii the same way it's inclined to do here. :)

My first thought too.

LOL. Hopefully we'll hear from the little trouble-magnet soon.

I'm not sure that's true...I was in SF in the '89 quake (9th floor) and we had our biggest aftershocks hours after the primary.

BTW...I'm a folding buddy!

No tsunami.
No Electricty.
There was flash flood warnings due to heavy rain but those have been lifted for now.

Folks are getting meat, propane and ice for supplies. Lots of BBQ's on for the day due to know power.

He was supposed to leave on Thursday. I don't know if they evacuated his hotel or not. He doesn't really know anyone there, but he's a big boy so I guess he will be OK. I still worry about him even though he is a grown man. Every Mom knows what I mean. :)
