First came the 2004 tsunami. Then Indonesia was afflicted by the Merapi volcano and a major earthquake in Yogyakarta. Now, a heavily populated region of East Java has been consumed by an unstoppable "mud volcano" that may have been caused by a gas- and oil-drilling project.

Poking holes in the ground always has some amount of hazard - usually to drilling crews - but this is a truly remarkable, fairly freakish occurrence.

They claim that it was irresponsible of the company to tear a wound into the geological bowels of the earth at such great depths. As a result, the earth has been incontinent since May 29.The rig just "lost circulation" and then found it.

The rig just "lost circulation" and then found it.Sounds to me like those people in Indonesia need to spread out a little bit.
This same sort of thing could happen in Lea County, and anybody outside of the coffee shop wouldn't even know about it.
