The president and co-owner of a Wilmington staffing company pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to conspiring to provide work for hundreds of illegal immigrants.
The Garcia Labor Cos. -- made up of Wilmington-based Garcia Labor Company of Ohio Inc. and Morristown, Tenn.-based Garcia Labor Company Inc. -- allegedly provided more than 1,000 temporary workers who were illegal immigrants to ABX Air Inc. from December 1999 through January 2005.
Maximino Garcia, president of Garcia Labor, entered a plea agreement that requires him to forfeit $12 million. He faces a maximum 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
Garcia's sister, Dominga McCarroll, the former vice president of both companies, and Gina Luciano, Garcia Labor Company director of human relations, also pleaded guilty to the same charge and also face up to 10 years in prison and maximum $250,000 fines.
Garcia Labor was indicted in July on 40 counts for employing illegal immigrants, mostly Mexicans, using invalid Social Security numbers and forged employment-background information, which ABX Air began requiring in 2003. The staffing firm also provided transportation, check-cashing and housing for the illegal workers, officials said.
ABX Air terminated its contract with Garcia's companies in 2005 after a Transportation Security Administration inspection revealed that all 400 Garcia employees were using invalid or fraudulent Social Security numbers.
Wilmington-based ABX (NASDAQ:ABXA) provides air cargo transportation services.

This is certainly refreshing news! If these kinds of busts were more common, a lot of our illegal aliens would self-deport themselves for lack of work.
A few dozen more prosecutions for this, and jobs will dry up for illegal aliens.
As many businesses as we have in this country hiring illegals we should be hearing of at least one of these a day. Until I do, I won't believe they are serious.
The phony "fence" and these token prosecutions are election season dog-and-pony shows for the GOP base and nothing more.

IMMIGRANT is a status defined by law. It is a legal status. (ie Student, Business Visitor etc.)
These Illegals are without status. They are ILLEGAL aliens. They are not immigrants because the legal status has not been granted to them.
Calling them immigrants is akin to calling theives "owners" of property they steal.
The momentum is finally shifting!!
