Some Koreans are still very angry at the Japanese.

What goes around comes around.

Uhhh...we have several bases in Japan. This is about Mini-Me, not what happened during WW2 or earlier.

Or maybe you think that 9-11 is our fault, too?

Ever since mankind had boats this thing has been going on. First it was the Jomon, and then the Yahoi, then the Koreans, and then back again ~ there's always some invasion to get angry over.

This is 2006, you seem to reside in a parallel universe trapped in a time warp.

Japan is an important geo-political and defensive ally against emerging threats to the interests of the USA, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, et al.

Do you read?

ladyjane: Some Koreans are still very angry at the Japanese. What goes around comes around.

Others: "This is about Mini-Me, not what happened during WW2 or earlier." "This is 2006, you seem to reside in a parallel universe trapped in a time warp."

No. Ladyjane and muawiyah are talking about an Asian perspective. We look at it from a very American "short-term" historical perspective.

Asia has grudges that go way further back than Islamists ever thought of. WW2 was a blip on the timeline to them.

It doesn't make any sense to us, but that's the way it is. The hatred over borders over there is tremendous, like it was in the US in 1861. At times, the Japanese were the damnyankees, and now they're civilization's best buddies. When we look at the way these people react, we had better put our Asia perspective caps on!

Yeah, the two countries have a long history of pi$$ing on each other, kind of like England and France.

"Some Koreans are still very angry at the Japanese.

Virtually every Asian in Asia is still very angry at the Japanese. Many countries have 500 year plans AND 500 year memories of the Nippon atrocities.

Ladyjane is absolutely correct. We don't have to agree with the Chinese/North Korean desire for revenge against Japan, but pretending it does not exist will not further our understanding of deep resentments within the Asian political sphere.

Remember: It is all about FACE, and Japan has caused many over the centuries to "lose face".

Some Koreans are still very angry at the Japanese.

Some Irish are still very angry at the British.

Does that justify the existence of the IRA??
