I'm going off memory and that's never all that reliable but I do recall it mentioned recently that South Korea kept approx 1 million men in uniform as a standing army.
As anyone who's trained in or been stationed in Korea will attest, these aren't the 1950s type Korean soldiers. These guys are hard from the floor up and it will be their families they are fighting to protect.
