You said -- "I thought you were asking what China is trying to prevent concerning the Japanese military. The answer to that question is nuclear weapons."

Well, I thought China was working on preventing Japan's "build-up" -- several steps *before* ever getting to nuclear weapons. I thought China was thinking in more conventional terms (not nuclear weapons). At least that is what it appears to me.

I think, not only *China* but also the *U.S.* would be opposed to Japan having nuclear weapons -- and thus -- that would probably *never* happen.

Everything I've read has been about preventing Japan's need for their own nuclear arsenal. That also goes for S.Korea and even Taiwan.

There's so much hot air coming out of specific countries in the past few days, it's easy to believe there's a 'GLOBAL WARMING" convergence going on.

Nonetheless, one specific thing I remember about the Kyoto Treaty (during Clinton Admin) which raised no small squawk: China was demanding the rights to use Japan's sea ports. Once that happened, "Kyoto" was off the table and put on ice.
