From news reports, I don't think there is unlimited VFR flying allowed over the island of Manhattan - just over the rivers. You can't totally shut off airspace on the rivers to all aircraft - there are a number of helicopter pads on the river.
Just as a matter of curiosity, what is your flying ability? Are you commercial? You sure seem down on General Aviation.....

Don't know about your flying abilities, but your selection of where you would prefer to crash seems to leave a lot of question about your survival abilities ...
