Remembering The Battle Of Lepanto

The "Holy League" turned the Ottoman Turks back on October 7, 1571 at Lepano and prevented the Mediterranean from becoming a Muslim lake.

Former Terrorist, Nazi to Speak At Columbia By Nathan Burchfiel CNSNews.com Staff Writer October 09, 2006
(CNSNews.com) - One week after protestors interrupted a speech by Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrest at Columbia University, student organizers are asking their colleagues to allow two former terrorists and a former Nazi soldier to speak freely.
The university's College Republicans on Wednesday will host former PLO terrorist Walid Shoebat, former Lebanese terrorist Zachariah Anani and former Nazi soldier Hilmar von Campe in a panel discussion on "issues that are vital to the safety of America and Western Civiliation," according to the university.
"While last week's disruption of free speech at Columbia University was regrettable," the group said in a release Monday, "we hope that cool heads will prevail during another controversial event at the same location on Oct. 11."
Students disrupted an event Oct. 4 when they stormed the stage shortly after Gilchrest began delivering his remarks at an event sponsored by the College Republicans. Protestors criticized Gilchrest's position favoring stricter enforcement of immigration laws, calling him a "racist."
Security officials escorted Gilchrest from the stage and eventually cancelled the event.
In a statement on Friday, Columbia University President Lee Bollinger called the disruption "one of the most serious breaches of academic faith that can occur in a university such as ours."
Bollinger said students and faculty "have rights to invite speakers to the campus. Others have rights to hear them. Those who wish to protest have rights to do so. No one, however, shall have the right or the power to use the cover of protest to silence speakers."

I attended a talk by Walid Shoebat. He's an impressive guy.
So I wonder if the Columbia brownshirts will disrupt these speeches.
Then he'll be out on his ear for hate speech.
Same with Hilmar von Campe - Christian. Excellent. Too bad I won't be there to see them.
Okay! I get it.
I say bring in the National Guard and shoot anybody who gets violent.
"Columbia University..... student organizers are asking their colleagues to allow two former terrorists and a former Nazi soldier to speak freely."
Makes sense....the Brownshirts wannbes were out in force ealier last week.
The Nazi's were a creature of the LEFT, not right.
Walid was interviewed on the Larry Elder Show a few weeks ago. This guy is the real deal and should be listened to.
Not that it matters much. When you get to those levels of extremism, there's not much difference between "left" and "right".
I just saw a clip of these "protestors" at Columbia. Straight out of the Star Wars bar scene.
"Walid was interviewed on the Larry Elder Show a few weeks ago. This guy is the real deal and should be listened to."
Since this is the first time I hear of either of these two men I'll hold off commenting any further upon them but to say it's interesting that Columbia students were more open to let a (former)terrorist and a (former)nazi speak than a man who has not committed any kind of crime whatsoever and they denied his right of Free Speech.
"Hilmar von Campe was listed in the 1992 "International Whos Who of Intellectuals." He is the author of four books, and WW2 veteran in the German Army as well as a former prisoner of war in Yugoslavia who staged a daring escape in 1945, crossing seven borders to freedom. He lived through the years of Nazi power and brain-washing in Germany as a child and then as a soldier. After the war, he learned about the Holocaust and the Nazi atrocities and had to come to grips with the reasons how something like that could happen. He also had to deal with his own moral responsibility for them. The destruction of Germany, the loss of his father in a Soviet concentration camp and of his elder brother who fell in Russia, and the expulsion from their home in Eastern Europe, had a profound impact on his life.
In other words, he was never a Nazi at all, but rather a teenage draftee into an ordinary regiment of the Wehrmacht.

Starting with statements made by Columbia security as they were clearing out the auditorium and continuing the next day, the university chose to blame the Republicans for note keeping order and the Minutemen for the violence. While this may have been Columbia Security trying to cover-up its errors, the university has a history of blaming conservatives. In 1998, the Columbia University College Republicans hosted an Accuracy in Academia conference, headlined by Ward Connerly. After leftists tried to break into the event the first night, the university decided to limit the event to Columbia students. This meant that the leftist could come, while students from other universities, who had paid to go to the event could not. In the end, the conference was expelled, while the students, who broke university policies, were untouched. In 2004, the Columbia College Conservative Club held a bake sale mocking affirmative action. While the event itself was not disrupted, the leftist students used it as a rallying cry. The Bollinger Administration quickly caved and created a program perversely called a Diversity Initiative. Given President Bollingers history in supporting politically correct racial discrimination, some cynics have seen full collusion here.
Fortunately, under the glare of a national spotlight, the university has supported free speech and is looking into the activities of the radical leftists. President Bollinger and the University Senate Committee on Academic Affairs both released a statement supporting free speech and calling for a full investigation. Of course, what happens between today and the full meeting of the Columbia University Senate on October 27th, still is in question.
Even this weekend, Socialist group spokespersons celebrated their drowning out the event. However, concerned for their safety, Republicans chose not to be filmed. http://ctv.osa.columbia.edu/ctvnews/
Unfortunately, this may well be the high point for free speech on campus. This weekend, Univision stoked the flames with a heavily-edited video. Given their constant support and even propaganda for illegal immigration, this may not be surprising; still it will be used by the ISO and other protestors as evidence that they are victims. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwqPRmlb3Xg
Here are the ISO protestors celebrating the turn of events http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6YmhMXDQYs
Later today, they along with the Chicano Caucus and other protestors will join with their advocates from the communist National Lawyers Guild in a press conference. While the grievances and solutions have not been set forth, it is likely that they will call for the Conservatives and Republicans to be reprimanded and for the protestors to be protected. Moreover, they may even try to sue the Minuteman Project, local immigration reform groups, CCCC and CUCRs and even individuals in these groups in an attempt to silence us and intimidate others.
Between the escalating security costs for the events of last week and this week, as well as the possibility of litigation, the members of the Columbia College Conservative Club and College Republicans need your support.
