Stratford Mayor James Miron is taking some heat for allegedly packing heat.
The Connecticut Post reports that a Town Council leader and some town workers say Miron has taken a handgun into his Town Hall office and council meetings, and they're concerned about public safety.
Town Council Chairman James Feehan says he saw the mayor carrying one gun under his suit jacket and another strapped to his ankle at a recent council meeting. Feehan says Miron has a right to carry guns as long as he has the proper permit, but he says the mayor should stop arming himself if it makes employees and citizens uncomfortable.
Miron won't confirm or deny the allegations, but he defends his right to carry weapons. The mayor, a retired Marine, says he doesn't want anyone intent on harming him knowing if he carries guns.
Miron says he has a state permit that allows him to carry guns anywhere in the state as long as they're concealed. He says the only reason he would fire his weapon is to defend himself or save another person's life.
Lifelong Stratford resident Kelly Sheridan says the mayor is sending the wrong message to local residents, including young people.
"he saw the mayor carrying one gun under his suit jacket and another strapped to his ankle at a recent council meeting...the mayor is sending the wrong message to local residents, including young people."
Words fail me.
"Lifelong Stratford resident Kelly Sheridan says the mayor is sending the wrong message to local residents, including young people." UP YOURS KELLY!
<< Feehan says Miron has a right to carry guns as long as he has the proper permit, but he says the mayor should stop arming himself if it makes employees and citizens uncomfortable. >>
sad to say that Feehan is a Republican :-(
if we were to stop doing what makes other uncomfortable, we wouldn't be able to do anything
The article is silent as to why poeple think the mayor is a threat to safety.
Does he have a history of violent behavior? Mental Illness? A criminal record?
***"he saw the mayor carrying one gun under his suit jacket and another strapped to his ankle at a recent council meeting...the mayor is sending the wrong message to local residents, including young people."***
And this from an area that in the past required all travelers to carry guns, and required by law all persons to bring their guns to church each sunday.
Apparently there's also a First Amendment right to carry a gun, then.
What a bunch of pussies.
Sounds like they need some of these:
Maybe he's known to be a bad shot?
Are these fools made uncomfortable with armed policemen? Whats the difference?
How is a law-abiding Mayor a threat to safety? 2nd Amendment is every American's right.
BTTT
"The article is silent as to why poeple think the mayor is a threat to safety."
Miron's a Democrat, and probably conservative leaning, thus he's a sellout and won't get any support in the MSM......

Sheridan must believe that anyone who exercises any Constitutional rights are 'sending the wrong message'.
Feehan, of course, is a flaming idiot. If Feehan lives his life and conducts business based on how others "feel", he's a moron and an idiot. That Feehan was elected by a majority of votes by his electorate makes them morons and idiots, as well.
My never present burning desire to visit CT has been reinforced by the examples set from these twits.
He has a history of being 'free' and knowing how to stay that way.
That can scare a lot of people. You know, the whole freedom thing.
I really wish reporters would challenge people to explain their answers.
As a resident of a nearby town, I can say this with complete sincerity: Lifelong Stratford resident Kelly Sheridan is an idiot who is sending the wrong message to local residents, including young people...
Retired Marine. There's lots of folks he might be a threat to... depending on their behavior of course. Jahdies on a mission, looters, anti-war rioters, folks like that.
