"Goaded" is the wrong word. If it were adult males and females talking that way it would be considered flirting, or just a mite beyond. Foley probably thought it was a legitimate contact and who says he started the conversation? It may have been the poor, helpless, not-underage, mega-rich, page.
OR Foley didn't say anything at all and two pages or staff members were just messing around between themselves...maybe neither one was gay, but they set up Foley's computer to save all the stuff.
I'm not so sure it's the wrong word, even if Foley is still a scum bag.
This is exactly the sort of prank teenagers will pull - entice someone to say or write embarassing or incriminating statements, save them in audio or written format, and then use them to amuse themselves, embarass the victim and even for blackmail. Something similar was done to me when I was in high school more than 40 yearsa ago. A kid I thought was a friend called me up and guided the conversation into talking about some other peoepl. In response to leading questions, I said stupid things not knowing I was being taped. The tape was edited to make simply dumb things sound salacious and incriminating, and it was then played to mutual friends. Oh, I know it was a crime, but in those days things like that were handled differently: I called the bastards who did it out and beat the crap out of them. I learned a lesson about watching what I said, and they learned a lesson not to mess with me
