Lanny Davis Warns Democrats October 4, 2006

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I checked the e-mail during the break. Dear Rush: You said in 1998 there was overwhelming anger at Clinton and it would drive conservatives to the polls. It was even the cover of your newsletter that month. We lost seats. Sorry, Rush, I'm hoping for the best, but I'm expecting the worse in November. This is from a man named Edgar in Atlanta. Okay, so I went back and I turned back the hands of time, the little gray cells here, millions and millions and millions of them all firing neurons at light speed as my memory was being researched. What was the circumstance, what were the Republicans talking about in 1998, during the midterm congressional elections? Yeah, there was overwhelming anger at Clinton, but what was it about? If you go back and look, 1998, was the entire Republican message not focused -- I don't want to ask it as a double negative. It's confusing to people in Rio Linda.

Do you remember the entire Republican message in 1998 being focused on Clinton's sex scandals and the resulting impeachment? And everybody was saying, where's the outrage, where's the anger, how come nobody's mad about this? And the Republicans had a singular message. We were flabbergasted that during all of this Slick Willie's approval numbers were still in the sixties, and we were agitated and irritated watching all these Democrat strategists go on television at night and 'splain it, make excuses for it and so forth. I don't recall that the Republicans in 1998 were talking issues, and also in 1998 we didn't know of the terrible terrorist threat that we faced as we know today. So I think circumstances are somewhat different. In fact, Lanny Davis was on Larry King Alive last night, and King says, Lanny, can we compare this to Clinton-Lewinsky?

DAVIS: It's about a private behavior situation, and I think Democrats have to be real careful not to try to turn this into a political partisan issue.

RUSH: Stop the tape. They already have Lanny. Listen to the rest of this.

DAVIS: It's about children, it's about why the Republican leadership took so long. We have to ask for an investigation and get the facts out and stop and be quiet. I'm an admirer of Howard Dean, but the Democratic National Committee puts a press release out today, it's a purely political organization. That's what we should not do. And we have to be very careful about not allowing this to be exploited politically. Of course we need to ask questions and have the facts speak for themselves, but that's about it.

RUSH: So a little warning out there from Lanny Davis. You're going overboard, my friends, he's saying to Democrats. Politicizing this, calling for Hastert's resignation before the investigation is complete, doing all this. He's worried, too, about it going overboard. He's been there, on the other side. And I'll bet you that if Lanny had the chance, he would say, yeah, the Republicans' singular focus on Clinton's sex and sexcapades and impeachment and so forth made it easy for us. And if you look, the Democrats, whatever the issue is, they fire everybody they've got, they overdo everything. The pattern has been that it all backfires on them at one point or another. For example, what if at some point in this whole saga it's learned that this is a Democrat dirty trick? Democrats are so confident that even if that is proven to be true, they're not worried about it. They don't think it will matter. Lanny Davis does. I'm talking about the guys engaged in the effort itself, the strategic political maneuver.

Re#22 Nah, not the ones that seek to fuel the fire. They out themselves eventually. Not that they can't convert. They just need to graduate from college and enter the real world and work for a living. Or get mugged...

I know what you're implying here, but I've seen a lot of great FReepers (too numerous to mention) come onto the forum recently and I am very encouraged by it. Thanks to all new FReepers and like-minded lurkers.

Good people are connecting rapidly.

Ditto.

And if midterms are about turnout, they certainly are, motivating conservatives that have been apathetic and furious to turn around and fight to keep the GOP majority was a dimwitted move of collassal order. I'm one of those that has done a 180 and now is strongly behind the majority in sum, even the congressman I wasn't going to vote for.

And when you add in the fact they are attacking their own base, the homosexual community, AND revealing to whatever swing voters might be out there that they let scum remain in office for political motives...Who in the hell is the idiot in the DNC that thought this was a smart idea? Stand up and be counted. You might become more of a hero to GOP operatives then pelosi or Rove by the time this is over.

A man from the Phillipines, who works with my husband, told him today, he will vote for whomever is going to do something about the illegals. Said it took him 8 years to come to the U.S.(legally) and took his sister 20 years.

Said he could care less about this scandal crap! I've heard many callers to radio stations saying similar things. i believe this will spur the republicans & the conservatives to get out & vote.

will not take this obvious vicious attack from the left sitting down.

The problem with the Dems is, they do not & have never understood us, the conservative base! This will not keep us away, it only gave us some fire that we were sorely lacking lately!!!

I respectfully disagree with you. You are either a troll, rat or both & do not understand the conservative base, we will be out there in big numbers now, more than ever! We can see a political ploy a mile away.

And don't forget the backup Rove plot: Dieboldgate. If the Republicans win, then it must be tampering with the machines! No other explanation!

1998 was the beginning of the slow slide of the GOP into 'business as usual'. What hurt us in November 1998 was basically our cave-in to Clinton on the budget in October.

Clinton if you racall in January 1998 had a good January until the bombshell dropped. He was ready to offer giveaways and start ramping up on liberalism.

. But this has me furious!!!

That is exactly what this democratic sleaze campaign has done to me.

I have always voted on the issues and have never voted strickly straight ticket. However; this November I will be voting a straight Republican ticket and I will tell everyone who listens to do the same thing.

The issues are to important and our enemies are to dangerous to even think of the leftwing socialist gaining power of our country.
