Baloney. Incessant calls for his resignation actually make it less likely that he'll resign -- mainly because this is a purely political situation and there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on his part.

Remember -- Donald Rumsfeld's tenure as Secretary of Defense has lasted for years since people started calling for his resignation. Heck -- these demands for his resignation have entrenched him so firmly in his position that he couldn't even get the President to accept a resignation offer.

Foley didn't and the proverbial manure has hit the fan!

Wrong...Foley did.

The damaging IM's were from a previous time period.

I think he called for an investigation but with everyone leaving DC for reelection duty, it didn't get much traction.

You're right, if we all start calling for Hastert's resignation then the media and the dems wlll have won and they'll keep on with their smear campaigns since they have so much success with them. You'd think it's enough tht Foley was forced to resign once the first IMs were made public. This isn't just about ousting one guy, this is also about trying to damage the republican party in general.

I did read the previous line.

After being spoken to by leadership, Foley ceased.

I like the last sentence. However, I don't believe the Republicans have the 'heart' or the 'will' to fight.

Are you saying Foley didn't quit emailing the kid? Bear in mind that there were emails brought to the republicans attention last year, and there are instant messages from
3-4 years ago. The media is not interested in making the distinction between the emails and the instant messages which are not one and the same, nor are they interested in giving specifics as to what was written when.

I am not saying anything,
according to Hastert on Limbaugh,
Hastert was told by Foley he had quit contacting the boy
And according to Hastert, "we were misled" because according to Hastert the contacts continued....

whatever the case, Foley should have been expelled a LONG TIME AGO!
And if I had been a congressman and known about Foley, expulsion would have been the least of his problems!

Hastert committed no offense deserving of his resignation.

Neither did Delay. Neither did Lott. Neither did Livingston.

In each case the GOP rolled over.

I'm sick to death of these wussies. If they don't want it as bad as the freaks on the other side of the aisle, why should I get an ulcer over their problems?

“Is it the job of the Speaker to monitor every Congressman's e-mail?”
Yes if the Speaker is Republican. If the Speaker is a democrat then he would be responsible to investigate the Republicans that leaked confidential emails.

This whole brouhaha is a textbook example of why homosexuals were denied security clearances in less PC times. Just think of how Foley could have been extorted by a foreign intellignce service to keep this quiet.

True it came from the MSM outlets, but it causes one to wonder.

It was not SOURCED; for all you know, that's more of Melanie Sloan's garbage they were regurgitating.

Don't misunderstand me, I don't want him to resign. However, I also don't want him to become the issue that loses the majority for the GOP in the House.

Hastert's resignation would be tantamount to waving the white flag. Stupid idea, because Hastert is telling the truth.
