A Muslim advocacy group's successful argument that a 9th grade student from a Virginia public high school did not have to wear regulation gym attire because of her Muslim religion, has fired up a critic of Islamic radicalism.
The 9th grader at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Va., was "threatened with failing the class if she did not wear shorts," according to a statement released by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).
"The student's family contacted CAIR (of Maryland and Virginia) for assistance in resolving the issue. Following discussions with school officials, the student was moved to a different gym class and will be allowed to dress in attire that meets her religious needs," stated CAIR.
The group stated that initially, the girl's teacher told her "the law required that the student wear the shorts."
In light of the dispute over the gym class attire, CAIR also noted that it would conduct diversity training for Lake Braddock's newer staff, as well as "visit local middle and high schools to review their policies for accommodating the religious needs of Muslim students during Ramadan, Eid and throughout the school year."
But Daniel Pipes, a frequent critic of CAIR and the director of the Middle East Forum, told Cybercast News Service that the gym shorts are part of a "campaign" by CAIR to replace rules in the U.S.
It is a campaign "to adapt public schools in the United States to Islamic norms," Pipes said, and "is an integral part of its effort to adapt the country to the Shari'a, or Islamic law."
"Its success in getting the gym rules changed at Lake Braddock [Secondary] School, plus its success in providing 'diversity training' for school staff, have inspired it to become more bold and to 'review the policies' in other middle and high schools in an attempt to bend them too to the Shari'a," Pipes added.
She and her family can return to where ever they came from and she can take gym classes there. Screw them. They chose to come here and live, so they can live by our rules, not theirs. Or they can leave. Does anyone here live in Burke?
If this is true, that's wrong. As long as she participates in the class, why should it matter what she wears?
I agree. But if the only issue is that the girl wants to wear long pants instead of shorts, I wouldn't see that as a big deal.
This girl and her shorts are not the issue. This is merely one wedge issue the muslims will use to incrementally impose their values upon our society, one step at a time. It is a time-proven formula, to chisel away at us. The death of a thousand cuts. The camels nose in the tent. The boiling frog. Give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile. The long journey begins with a step. Whatever metaphor you like! The muslims have a game plan. The founders of CAIR are upfront about converting America to Islam. Do you believe them? Do you want to live under Sharia law? Sooner or later, the muslims will object to something that YOU have no problem with. Will you give it up for them? Where will you will draw a line in the sand, stand and fight?
Yup..."uncovered" means not wearing a burqa.
I would prefer that ALL of them get the hell out of our country!
I feel sorry for the girl: her parents are making her stand out from the crowd, at an age when it is ABSOLUTELY IMPERITIVE to try to "fit in".
So she's the only one going to be running around in odd uncomfortable gym attire, when all her colleagues (because for sure she won't have any "friends": her parents make her too wierd to have friends) get to wear shorts and conform to the norm.
How horribly sad for this little girl! I think she ought to rebel and wear shorts, just to spite her folks.
*DieHard*
It was a rhetorical question; untwist those knickers.
How come Mr Ibrahim Hooper not at 15 degrees C (59 F)?
You said what I was thinking. The only reason we are in the mess with government education that we are is because we went from self-reliance to public-reliance on educating our children.
We would not have all the situations of public indoctrination from, Islam is a Religion of Peace to Homosexuality is just an alternative lifestyle that you should experiment with, if we did not have public schools.
Okay. Lets just let every kid wear whatever they want.
If the parents don't like school rules..pay for private school!
My grandmother was the same way, but she also added playing cards to that list.
Playing cards -- definitely a no-no, too. Not even Old Maid. No slacks on women. No earrings. No makeup. Life was fun... NOT! Couldn't say "gee" or "gosh" or "darn" -- all minced oaths.
ping for later
Bingo!
I think you're right. Rather than letting this girl wear long sweats or some other accomodation, let's just go to the extreme and let everyone wear what they want. Nice work.
