Gym Attire Seen As Latest Attempt to Force Shari'a in US

A Muslim advocacy group's successful argument that a 9th grade student from a Virginia public high school did not have to wear regulation gym attire because of her Muslim religion, has fired up a critic of Islamic radicalism.

The 9th grader at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Va., was "threatened with failing the class if she did not wear shorts," according to a statement released by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

"The student's family contacted CAIR (of Maryland and Virginia) for assistance in resolving the issue. Following discussions with school officials, the student was moved to a different gym class and will be allowed to dress in attire that meets her religious needs," stated CAIR.

The group stated that initially, the girl's teacher told her "the law required that the student wear the shorts."

In light of the dispute over the gym class attire, CAIR also noted that it would conduct diversity training for Lake Braddock's newer staff, as well as "visit local middle and high schools to review their policies for accommodating the religious needs of Muslim students during Ramadan, Eid and throughout the school year."

But Daniel Pipes, a frequent critic of CAIR and the director of the Middle East Forum, told Cybercast News Service that the gym shorts are part of a "campaign" by CAIR to replace rules in the U.S.

It is a campaign "to adapt public schools in the United States to Islamic norms," Pipes said, and "is an integral part of its effort to adapt the country to the Shari'a, or Islamic law."

"Its success in getting the gym rules changed at Lake Braddock [Secondary] School, plus its success in providing 'diversity training' for school staff, have inspired it to become more bold and to 'review the policies' in other middle and high schools in an attempt to bend them too to the Shari'a," Pipes added.

I guess they would rather the girl go to gym in a burkha, trip over the thing while doing jumping jacks--then they could sue the school.

If Christians would stand up for their faith half as much as the muslims do....

My kids don't like to wear them either, but they do it.
If they can't follow the rules then get the hell out of our schools.

Where it will eventually lead:

Saudi Arabia - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bibles are illegal. Churches are illegal.

Yemen - Bans proselytizing by non-Muslims and forbids conversions. The Government does not allow the building of new non-Muslim places of worship.

Kuwait - Registration and licensing of religious groups. Members of religions not sanctioned in the Koran may not build places of worship. Prohibits organized religious education for religions other than Islam.

Egypt - Islam is the official state religion and primary source of legislation. Accordingly, religious practices that conflict with Islamic law are prohibited. Muslims may face legal problems if they convert to another faith. Requires non-Muslims to obtain what is now a presidential decree to build a place of worship.

Algeria - The law prohibits public assembly for purposes of practicing a faith other than Islam. Non-Islamic proselytizing is illegal, and the Government restricts the importation of non-Islamic literature for distribution.

Jordan - Has the death penalty for any Muslim selling land to a Jew.

Sudan - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death.

Pakistan - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bans proselytizing by non-Muslims. Christians regularly put in prison for charges of blasphemy. Islam is the state religion, and in a court of law the testimony of a Christian carries less weight than that of a Muslim. Section 295(c) of the Penal Code calls for a death sentence for anyone who defiles the name of the Prophet Muhammad and requires the testimony of four Muslims for a conviction. This fosters an environment in which Muslims can feel free to use intimidation and violence against religious minorities for personal gain.

Qatar - Islamic instruction is compulsory in public schools. The government regulates the publication, importation, and distribution of non-Islamic religious literature. The government continues to prohibit proselytizing of Muslims by non-Muslims.

Malaysia - Under Malaysian law, any convert to Christianity must apply to a shariah (Muslim law) court to legally renounce Islam. Many Christians prefer to remain silent converts rather than take their battle to the shariah courts, where apostasy or conversion out of Islam is punishable by whipping, fines, imprisonment and--in the most extreme application--death.

The Maldives - In the island paradise visited by tens of thousands of tourists each year, Christianity is simply not tolerated. While local Christians – said to number around 300 out of a total population of 300,000 – do get together to worship, they do so at the risk of imprisonment or worse if discovered by the Muslim authorities. Bibles are banned, and tourists can be arrested for trying to bring them into the country.

"Diversity training" is just doublespeak for political re-education.

No, their goal is to close the school and replace it with a madrassa where they'll inculcate boys with their evil religion and their perverse misogynism.

"I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future...But I'm not going to do anything violent to promote that. I'm going to do it through education."

-- Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR Spokesperson

"If you choose to live here [in America], you have a responsibility to deliver the message of Islam ... Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."

-- Omar Ahmad, CAIR co-founder

The Islamic supremacists probably had a problem with her being seen in public by kufir males. Shorts would've been an unbearable torture.

There is no reason to force someone to wear revealing clothes in gym class. There are plenty of acceptable options including full-length sweat clothes. Sometimes our war causes us to overreact even at the point of being stupid.

Again, you put your kid in public schools as a last and only final resort.. anything less and you are engaging in neglect and child abuse.

Don't trust the government with your health care, but let them have your kids 8 hours a day... Brilliant.

I'll stir this pot ... ;-)

OK, if the school can and must accommodate disabled students in gym class (ADA) then WHY (truthfully) must a student wear shorts, if other non-movement-or-safety-impinging garments are available. The fact that the religion of the student is muslim/islam is largely irrelevant. The issue is WHAT MUST be worn, and the rationale behind it.

I can understand them requiring soft sole shoes with no heels, garments that won't snag on equipment, etc., etc., but why MUST a student wear shorts?

Just so ya know, the answer is to put your kids in private schools or home school and avoid the arbitrariness of public schools.

At our local county pool the County has been able to ENFORCE a policy of requiring swim garments being worn, even if your own personal modesty requirements dictate street clothes. You're in a public pool, and you must wear pool garments. You're not guaranteed modesty. (buy a swimsuit from the late 1902s?)

Islamic imperialism and Islamic supremacist advocates.

I like it when people are clear that they seek to toss the Constitution on which this nation is founded. It makes it fair game to call them an enemy of the state.

I disagree - there is nothing wrong with a high school girl trying to be more modest. For whatever reason, religious or otherwise, they shouldn't be forced to bare their legs if they don't want to.

It's not about sharia, it's about modesty. Girls have a right to cover themselves more if they want to. That's freedom, people.
