How many times do they have to say republican in this article???

Foley, 52, a six-term Florida Republican, resigned after ABC News reported he sent messages containing references to sexual organs and acts to current and former congressional pages.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said House Republican leaders should be questioned under oath on how much they knew of Foley's e-mails to male pages, the teenagers who answer telephones, deliver documents and run other errands for members of Congress.

The scandal, breaking just weeks before the November 7 election to determine control of Congress, has shaken Republicans who often accuse the Democrats of being weak on moral issues.

Foley was chairman of the House caucus on missing and exploited children, and the author of the key sexual predator provisions of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, which President George W. Bush signed in July.

Reid in a statement said the allegations against Foley were "repugnant, but equally as bad is the possibility that Republican leaders in the House knew there was a problem and ignored it to preserve a congressional seat this election year."

LOL I'm glad you didn't make the reply too complicated for the blonde so early in the morn!

Let me ask Pelosi how much she knew about Barney Franks queer whorehouse.

Stinking bubble eyed fool is living in a glass house and throwing bricks again.

I hope we see real outrage from the right, especially from his constituents from Florida. We should. This guy is evil. If my son were a page and received e-mails like the transcript I read, well, it wouldn't be pretty, I can tell you that.

Have I forgotten all the demonrat congress-creatures who were demanding an investigation into Gary Condit? After all, his intern disappeared and turned up MURDERED.

They usually overplay their hand. This time, they just couldn't hold their fire long enough. Schmucks, LOL!

Some miniscule little blog got ahold of at least one e-mail and posted it last week forcing ABC's hand. It looks like they were going to hold off a bit longer.

Odd, the little blog site seems to have ties to democrats. For the whole scoop, see threads from yesterday.

Did you see on Drudge that Foley "strongly believes that he is an alcoholic"? While he's opening up, maybe he should stronly admit that he is a pervert.

"How many times do they have to say republican in this article???"

They missed a sentence.

"Foley was chairman of the House caucus on missing and exploited children, and the author of the key sexual predator provisions of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, which REPUBLICAN President George W. Bush signed in July."

There. Fixed now....

The alcoholic bit worked for Patrick Kennedy. After he admitted that and checked into a clinic, all was forgiven--after all, he was just a victim. Let's see if Foley gets the same sympathy (not that he deserves it).

Isn't this typical? "Democrats show that they despise gays - one of their own key constituencies." It is almost like a warning from the maffia Don. Leave the reservation and you'll get whacked like Foley.

I don't use IM, but I looked at the Microsoft IM menus this morning and there is no "save" command. So, how does one get a transcript? Who saves it for three years and then gives it to ABC? Makes me wonder if Mary Mapes has moved. Does anyone think that when Monica Lewinsky educated us about phone sex that she was talking about communication this tame?

You heard a claim to that effect. We have yet to see the names of those staffers so that we can ask them exactly what it was they really said, or why they kept it secret for so long.

I guess that's the FBI's job.

This has to do with being gay ~ then with hiding evidence of the commission of a crime.

The Democrats are in a lot of trouble on this.

I don't know if the ISP somehow archives IM chats or not. As for saving an IM chat, only two people can see it or save it; Foley and the page.

I can't see Foley saving such a record, can you? So that leaves the page...or his parents. They could just copy and paste the whole chat to notepad.

If it were the parents, it does seem odd that they would have kept it under wraps. Parents tend to go after predators right away. Others in Washington might see such a chat bomb as a valuable chip to play later, whether for power or money. Soon all the rats will come out.

I'm not sure and someone with more knowledge than I could set us straight, but I think all IM's, emails, TM's, etc. are archived on ISP and related servers for a certain period of time. I think the ISP's release of those messages without an express court order could be against the law, but since the Bush Administration has been messing with the privacy act, it's legality may be a non-issue now.

Two thoughts come to mind:
1) NEVER put in unsecured electronic form anything you wouldn't want to be made public.
2) Be careful of what you wish ( ie. internet, phonecall snooping without warrant) - for it might just come true.

Am I the only one who sees a double standard here? What about all of the hetero carrying on with pages, interns, staffers and such? And quite likely some of those MC's are married. And is Foley the only gay or lesbian in congress who has done this?

You can't "out" someone on rumors. They may have all had their suspicions, but if they were unable to find proof there was nothing they could do. The simple fact is, this guy did nothing while they were still working in congress, he waited until they went home to start pursuing them. We still don't know if it was all talk or if any "action" followed these "yuck" factor IMs.

A little hyperbolic today aren't we Nancy? I haven't seen or even heard of evidence of a crime yet, just disgusting behavior. I'm in favor of outlawing disgusting behavior Ms. Pelosi, but it would have quite an effect on a lot of your constituents.
