If you were listening when it happened, and by your estimate of time between the first and last shots that it happened in about 4 seconds, then I would conceed that it's unlikely reloading could occur

On the range I don't think I could empty my (10 round .45) magazine into a target at 7 yards (getting it on the paper), eject, and pop in a fresh mag in under 6 secs. Under combat stress I would probably take longer. I know some people who I've seen do it (on the range at matches) in under 4 secs, but their performance would not be typical, even on a SWAT team
