"Why the GOP didn't force Foley out when they learned of it is a mystery."
That's what I want to know.
Not really. They were hoping that this would not come out before the election. They gambled and lost. Now they pay the price.
Yes, but these things take time, and he may not have owned up to it in the beginning. If they needed an investigation, or if the congressman in question was in the middle of governmental things that he had to finish and couldn't leave for the next guy, that too would take time. I'm sure he was monitored from the time the GOP was made aware of it, and I am equally sure it was immediately known that he had to resign.
Being gay is not a crime in the Republican Party, in spite of what the Democrats would have you believe. Being gay and claiming to be straight should be a crime anywhere, everytime.
for starters, Hastert is a moron...hes in the leadership role.....thus why the party is in the shape its in today
I believe Foley had been tagged as gay from stuff I don't remember where I read it on the net.
I'm not as surprised as others about this because he was definitely on my "Gaydar" screen.
The Dems and or the media were digging for some dirt and they found it.
That could be the problem because the details weren't available but the "gay" chatter was. What if they had conducted an investigation into a "gay man's personal life?"
The libs could accused the GOP of "gay bashing" and it took the media confronting Foley to force resignation.
My own PERSONAL theory is that both parties are less than ethical. Both protect their own.
It's just disgusting. We should insist on better.
