Good News for George Allen
RCP Blog ^

Posted on 09/28/2006 6:50:12 AM PDT by slowhand520

September 27, 2006 Good News for George Allen Good news (for a change) for George Allen in his Virginia Senate race. In the first poll in a couple of weeks, a new poll by SurveyUSA for WUSA-TV Washington DC and WDBJ-TV Roanoke gives Allen a five-point lead, 49% - 44%. All things considered this has to be seen as good news for the Allen campaign given the recent news coverage. The poll was taken Sunday - Tuesday while the latest scuttlebutt over accusations that he used the N-word in the 1970's was hitting in the media. Each individual day's polling was all over the place so it is clear there is a tremendous amount of volatility in this race.

But given the news flow for Allen the past month, the fact that Webb has actually lost ground from SurveyUSA's poll taken August 18-20 is not great news for his ultimate prospects in November. Webb can't expect the news flow/press coverage to continue to be this favorable from his point of view from here until the election, especially with Allen having the money to get his message up on air to counter a Washington media that is overwhelmingly hostile to his candidacy. I don't think the Allen people can breath easy though, this is only one poll and I'll be interested to see where some more polling pegs this race

Yup. Virginians have an innate sense of fair play and justice.

Moveon seems to believe everyone lives in their rabidly hateful psychosis.

The blogosmearing of Allen has helped Webb a little with blacks- from 63% to 72%, but it didn't hurt Allen with blacks- 22% to 21%.

I heard it on WMAL this morning on my drive in. Looking at their website now, they have a story concerning a new ad blitz by Allen, but nothing on what I heard.

Linda,

It's in today's Washington Post. Not the front page, where the Allen story has been for months, but buried in the Metro section.

It was also reported on WMAL this morning.

The Washington Post has beaten the drums over the macaca word in dozens of articles and opinion pieces. Yet today they ran a story titled "Webb Denies Ever Using Word as Epithet." They are referring to what they like to call the N word, with which they equate the M word, but actually spell out the M word. Got it?

Guess where this headline ran? On the Metro section front page.

Perhaps the Democrats' accusations of Allen using the "N word" has awakened the Reagan Democrats in rural Virginia. LOL!

Yup...the RATs brought out their ole slurminator.
Guess they'll have to use a new "tactic".

Nobody with any knowledge of VA politics believed Allen would win this race by 30, or even 20, points. That's just silly.

I would like to see some of the many black football players whom his father coached in Chicago, LA and Washington and who George was around his whole life come to his defense. That would assure a 10+ pt defeat for Webb.

Survey USA VA poll

According to the pollster's link, this poll is of Adults, not RVs or LVs. I'd say George Allen is sitting in a better position than this thread might indicate.

pollsters can't factor in the voters who would consider the n-word charge a plus. we aren't past that quite yet...my grandmother still votes !!!

Using the "N" word is just another excuse for the politically correct to have something to whine about.

Democrats are a bunch of wussies who love to scratch and claw during their cat fights.

Someone mentioned that Howard Dean had a male lover on the side.

Can anyone confirm what some are saying about Dean being a closet homosexual.

By the way what is the meaning of the "N" word? Nasty @ssed minded Democrats.

Even the outright racists in my boyhood rarely used the n word but rather nigras. I doubt that any would vote for Allen because he was claimed to do so when he claims he didn't. I do believe there would be many people who would because of the Treason Media's attempted ambush.

When was the last Republican thirty point victory in Virginia? Reagan didn't even do it. Ten to fifteen is the best you'll see, assuming some type of opposition.

Virginia is not utah or south carolina, remember allen won his last race by 4 points, and john warner won against mark warner by 5 points.

Allen's race for governor was the biggest victory in a long time (59-41).

I did not realize that the results were that close. That certainly makes things more clear. Thankfully Senator Allen will pull this off just not by as much as I misspoke.
