Fury & OldFriend, since you were discussing locked doors, do either of you know how this guy got in? That topic is never mentioned in the news stories. In the schools around where I live, every visitor must come through the front door and sign in. All other doors are locked, and alarms sound if the doors are opened. I'm not saying someone couldn't try to slip in during the confusion of students arriving for the day, but it's likely a 54-year old male would be noticed immediately.

I don't think there's been a discussion on how the murderer got in the school. Based on the reports I've seen, students reported encountering a person with a hoodie up over his head.
Also in reading, it's been reported that the school had some security measures that were supposed to make it more difficult for non-students to enter unnoticed. I don't know what these are, but can surmise things access control points, all exterior doors locked, etc are some of those measures.
There will certainly be an after action review to determine how he got in. I would expect the school district could be liable, if they did not follow the policies & procedures they had in place. I will disagree with fellow posters that students and teachers being armed would have resolved this problem. Until it is known how the murderer got in the building and moved about the building on his way to the classroom where the students were taken hostage, I believe it's premature to discuss if weapons being carried by staff and students would have made a difference in this tragic event.

Seemingly, he just walked right in. There was supposed to be police officer there EVERY day, but he was elsewhere.
That part of the story has not been told, but I assure you there will be questions asked.
